Recyclable PE pouch solutions

At K 2022 in october in Düsseldorf, Germany, Borealis and Borouge PLC presented three concepts for recyclable polyethylene (PE) pouches: a laminated PE pouch for gas barrier packaging of oxygen-sensitive products, including modified atmosphere, high-barrier PE laminate pouch for packaging moisture-sensitive food products and PE pouch containing 35% Ecoplast low-density polyethylene (LDPE) low-gel post-consumer recycled (PCR) for non-food applications (powder detergents). For these single-material PE pouches, BorShape™ and Borstar® achieve the required level of mechanical and thermal stability, while Anteo™ and Anbiq™, combined with Queo™, provide exceptional sealing performance. The single-material approach reinforces the aesthetic appeal (appearance and feel) as well as end-of-life recycling of the bags, which rely on leading industrial partnerships: Hosokawa Alpine (PE MDO film extrusion), Henkel (adhesive solvent-free lamination and Digimarc technology compatible with HolyGrail 2.0 to facilitate sorting) or even Metlux (vacuum metallization).
